Privacy policy

Last updated August 19, 2026.

The short version

This site has no backend, no accounts, no analytics, and no advertising. Your address search happens entirely in your browser. We do not collect, store, or sell your personal information.

What we do not collect

We do not set cookies. We do not use analytics services such as Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or similar. We do not use advertising networks. We do not track you across websites. We do not store your address, your search history, or your location. There is no user account system and no login.

How the address search works

When you type an address, your browser sends it directly to two third-party services to turn it into coordinates:

  • U.S. Census Bureau geocoder (geocoding.geo.census.gov) matches your address to a location. This is a U.S. government service subject to the Census Bureau's own privacy policies.
  • Photon (photon.komoot.io), an open-source geocoding service built on OpenStreetMap data, provides the type-ahead suggestions as you type.

Your address goes from your browser directly to these services. It never passes through our servers because we do not have servers.

Location data

If you tap "Use my location," your browser asks for permission and sends your coordinates to the same geocoding services above to find your nearest address. This site never receives or stores your coordinates.

Third-party services

This site loads resources from the following third-party services. Each may log your IP address or set cookies under their own policies:

  • Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com) serves the typefaces used on this site. Google states that its Fonts API does not set cookies and that font requests are not used for tracking. See Google Fonts privacy.
  • OpenStreetMap (openstreetmap.org) provides optional map embeds that load only when you choose to open one. OpenStreetMap may set cookies through these embeds. See the OSMF privacy policy.
  • GitHub Pages (github.io) hosts this site. GitHub may log standard server access information such as your IP address. See GitHub's privacy statement.

Cookies

This site does not set any cookies. If you dismiss the cookie notice banner, your preference is saved in your browser's local storage (not a cookie) so the banner does not reappear. No data leaves your device for this.

Third-party embeds (OpenStreetMap maps) may set their own cookies when loaded. These are loaded only on your action and are governed by those services' own cookie policies.

The feedback form

When you submit the form on the "Add or correct a source" page, it opens your email app with the details pre-filled. The form does not send data to any server. If you choose to send the email, it goes directly from your email account to ours. Your email address is only used to reply to your message if needed.

Children's privacy

This site does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Since we collect no personal data at all, there is nothing to delete.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page will be updated. Since this site has no way to contact you (we do not have your email unless you send one), checking this page is the only way to see updates.
